Our mission is to provide engaging education, individualized support, and evidence-based care to empower women in our community to meet their breastfeeding goals.
After the birth of my first, when I left the hospital I was so confused. Healing from a cesarean, severely engorged, my baby wouldn't latch & I was supplementing with formula. I felt like a failure. At my pediatrician, there was an angel; Sheryl, a thirty year IBCLC who changed my life.
Through severe engorgement, pumping, bottle feeding to latching, nipple shields, & a frenotomy; she was there to pull me through it & help me build confidence in my ability to feed my baby. Eventually, my daughter & I finally got the hang of latching & life got easier. I thought, I want to do for other women what she did for me.
After the birth of my second, I enrolled in Union Institute & University. I completed my internship at Cincinnati Children's Anderson Primary Care with the same IBCLC who helped me after my first was born. We've become friends & I'm grateful she is a huge resource for me still. I also interned at Mercy Anderson Hospital in Cincinnati.
I graduated with honors, earning a bachelors of science in Maternal Child Health; Human Lactation. Soon after, I began working at my local hospital in the family birthing center as a lactation consultant. I then passed the IBLCE board examination achieving the esteemed title of IBCLC. I loved school & will pursue a master's in lactation in the coming years.
My Breast Friend Lactation was birthed from my personal experience after my first was born & from the mothers I work with now. Often times, women say they wish they could take me home with them.
Through engaging prenatal education (breastfeeding class), personalized lactation consultations in your home, in our office, or through a secure Telehealth platform; I aim to help the women in my community & be their Sheryl. Everyday I feel blessed to be in this profession & feel it is an honor to work with the women & babies I serve. My Breast Friend Lactation is here to help you meet your breastfeeding goals.
YOU CAN DO IT WE CAN HELP!
I was having the hardest time to be able to get my son to latch once we left the hospital and was feeling really defeated about it, as most first moms do. So Amy at My Breast Friend was a God send when she came over for an appointment.
It was so nice to be able to do it in our home, so that both my baby and I were comfortable and we could show her the exact environment we were nursing in.
While at the appointment she discovered a tongue tie which was causing a shallow latch and showed us how to properly use nipple shields too, which were game changers. We had the tongue tie fixed within 4 days of our appointment and he’s been latching appropriately ever since.
Amy has been so patient, understanding, and nurturing with all my first time mom struggles and questions. Truly she’s the best! My son was born 9.5 lbs and now weighs 11 lbs at 3 weeks and zero formula after he left the hospital. Seriously incredibly helpful -K.D.
I met with Amy before I delivered my son and at home about 10 days postpartum.
She was a wealth of information, very kind and having an at home visit was a lifesaver with a newborn! Would definitely recommend working with her! -C.O
I am SO grateful to Amy for her services! Breastfeeding is so intimate and personal, so it’s so important to have a warm and compassionate LC and Amy is 10000% that! She has a wealth of knowledge and I learned sooo much from our 2 sessions.
If not for her I probably would’ve given up on my breastfeeding journey but she quickly made corrections to what I was doing and now my baby is finally starting to gain weight. Could not recommend Amy enough! -C.R.
Amy Koehler of My Breast Friend Lactation has been absolutely fantastic to work with! I did not have a good experience with the LC’s I worked with during my first pregnancy. During this second pregnancy I decided to try using The Lactation Network to see if I could be connected to different LC’s.
The match process was easy and I was quickly matched with Amy. Within 24 hours of the match, Amy reached out offering her services and contact info. She arranged a virtual BF class for me, which ended up being extremely helpful to go through even though I thought I knew all the basic info.
I was so grateful that Amy took the time to really get to know me and understand why I struggled so much with my first baby. It was the first time a LC didn’t make me feel like it was my fault and instead Amy pointed out the decision points where the challenges could have been prevented.
Since having my second baby, Amy has been readily available - answering my texts and calls, checking in on how we are doing, and setting up virtual and in person sessions as needed. Amy even made herself available for a same day visit to help me make a plan when our pediatrician suggested supplementing with formula.
I am so grateful for Amy and all the support she has provided to make feeding so much easier and more successful! -J.B
