Why an IBCLC?
Anyone can say they're a lactation consultant. However, an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) goes through extensive training to receive the esteemed title.
- Must pass 14 college-level health science courses
- Complete at least 90 hours of lactation-specific education
- Perform 300-1,000 hours of directly supervised clinical lactation consulting practice
- Must pass a board examination
- Recertify every 5 years
- Continue education to remain current
